The Msuwadzi Small Holder Tea Growers association is a group of about 200 small holder farmers around Satemwa. Satemwa works closely with the small holders in partnership to grow herbs, flowers and some unique specialty teas. Satemwa and the small holders are based in Thyolo (1000 – 1200m above sea level) in the Shire Highlands.
This red hibiscus is grown by some small holder farmers around Satemwa Tea Estate in Malawi. The small holders carefully remove the bright red calyx of the Hibiscus sabdariffa flower by hand. Afterwards the flowers are sun dried. The result is a deeply magenta-colored flower which gives a fresh sour and sweet pleasant taste. Rich in vitamin C and lovely hot or in an iced tea. Super in combination with a slice of orange, a piece of ginger or a drop of honey.
